Got ants? Don't want to use insecticides to kill them?

Every Spring, the ants decide to come into the house.  I know I'm not alone, because everyone is scrambling to call the exterminators.  Instead of using ant traps and insecticides, try something different and less harmful to you and your pets health.  I keep my egg shells, dry them in a paper bag out in the sunshine, then crush them with a rolling pin or grind them in the coffee grinder into a fine powder.  Once you have enough, sprinkle a thin line around the outside border of your house.  When the ants cross over the line, it cuts through their waxy coat and acts like diatomaceous earth.  What's that you say?  It's a safe way to kill ants without using insecticides.  If you don't have enough egg shells and the ants are driving you crazy, you can always purchase diatomacious earth at your local hardware store.

  1. You're not alone!
The past few years we've been so (obsessively) diligent about ... killing the scouts (and requesting their spirits share the consequences of "This is my space. All that out there is yours," with their living sisters. But this is a great thing to remember, should the current trend falter. And, certainly, I have eggshells!

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. I will try as you suggested as well. We have much fewer this year than years past. Thank goodness.
